Carl Froch has maintained that he will hand Andre Dirrell his first ever defeat when the pair meet in Nottingham on October 17 in the first stage of the Super Six World Boxing Classic.
Froch, who will put his WBC super middleweight title on the line, is confident he can ruin Dirrell’s perfect record and gain himself an extra point in the boxing competition by knocking out the American.
“I’ve proven I can get in the trenches and emerge on top,” said the 32-year-old. “He hasn’t been in that deep yet so let’s see what happens when he finds himself in that kind of fight.”
Froch, 25-0 (20 KOs), is hoping for a short night at the city’s Trent FM Arena: “I believe I’ll knock him out, the sooner the better as far as I’m concerned.
“I’ve studied him and I think he has a number of flaws that I can exploit. My record proves I can punch and I just need one opportunity to finish a fight be it in the first round or the last round,” he added.
Just hours prior to the Froch v Dirrell fight in Nottingham, Arthur Abraham will be on home soil in Berlin to face Jermain Taylor, Froch’s previous victim, in the opening bout of the Super Six tournament.
Also in the Super Six competition is the relatively unknown but undefeated American Andre Ward and WBA champion Mikkel Kessler who are set to fight in the US on November 21 in the final fight of the opening stage.
The competition is latest in a trend of boxing tournaments in the professional ranks after The Contender and Prizefighter, but ensures the best fighters in the super middleweight division face each other over the course of two years.
