Lee McAllister will become the first boxer from the north of Scotland to headline a fight in Glasgow on Friday when he defends his Commonwealth lightweight title against Ghanaian Samuel Amoako.

The Aberdeen Assassin is hoping fans from Aberdeen and Glasgow can put their football differences aside and unite behind him at the Bellahouston Centre.

McAllister was as confident as ever at the weigh-in and claimed the title of Scotland’s best boxer.

“It’s a good chance for the Glasgow fans to see the best fighter in Scotland on their doorstep.

“I’ve got bus loads of fans coming down from Aberdeen. They’re all going to be there and obviously the Glaswegian lot are going to be there. I know there is a rivalry with the football but I’m hoping we’re all going to pitch together as Scottish people and enjoy the night all together.”

The 27-year-old has ambitions of British, European and world title success and has vowed to make 2010 the year he brings himself into world class contention. Standing in the way however is Amoako who, at 17 wins from 18 fights, is no pushover.

McAllister, 30-2 (7 KOs), maintained he is ready for anything and, despite knocking out his last two opponents in spectacular fashion, is happy to go the distance.

“I’m always confident, I’m raring to go, I just can’t wait,” said McAllister.

“Whether it’ll be a knockout or whether it’ll be on points it will be a McAllister victory regardless. I just can’t wait to get in the ring now and knock him out.”
