Super Six: Froch v Kessler still homeless

The venue for Carl Froch’s highly anticipated fight with Mikkel Kessler in the Super Six World Boxing Classic remains undecided despite reports claiming the dispute has been settled.

Nottingham’s Froch will defend his WBC super middleweight title against the ‘Viking Warrior’ in his native Denmark on April 17, but the exact venue remains unknown.

The bout was originally due to take place in Herning, but Froch, putting his fans first, refused to agree to fight in the little known outpost arguing it would be more difficult and expensive for his fans to travel to the fight.

The champion’s promoter Mick Hennessy has been fighting for the contest to take place in Copenhagen, a more easily accessible destination for the travelling support, while Kessler’s promoters Sauerland want the original location of Herning.

Possible arenas in Germany have been suggested and despite reports Froch had agreed to fight in Herning, Sauerland insist no decision has been reached as of yet.

"Despite reports on certain websites, no decision has been taken about the venue for the biggest fight in Danish history between the 'Viking Warrior' Mikkel Kessler and Carl 'The Cobra' Froch," Sauerland released in a statement.

"Team Sauerland and Hennessy Sports are close to reaching a decision which will be formally announced in the nearest future."

Froch will be hoping to impress in his second fight of the tournament after a scrappy display in his opening bout against the awkward American Andre Dirrell.

The Englishman was planning to take Kessler’s WBA title in their match-up but the Dane lost his first fight to Andre Ward and will be eager to become world champion once again at the expense of Froch.
