Nathan Cleverly and James DeGale are looking to win big on September 18 on the Magnificent Seven card as they eye the Boxing Writer’s Club Young Boxer of the Year award.

The two Frank Warren promoted fighters have been nominated for the prestigious award whose previous recipients include Scotland’s Ken Buchanan, Joe Calzaghe, Nazeem Hamed, Nigel Ben and Ricky Hatton.

Cleverly was unlucky not to receive the award last year after losing out by a single vote to Kell Brook but having added the European light heavyweight title to his British and Commonwealth crowns, the Welshman will be hoping to emulate countryman Calzaghe in lifting the award.

"Kell was a deserving winner in 2009," said Cleverly, who is favourite for 2010. "Coming second behind such a good boxer was no disgrace, but I would have loved to have won the award.

"I hope I get enough votes in 2010, because to win would mean a lot to me.

"I'm sure a KO performance in my next fight against Karo Murat will help me no end, so that is what I will be aiming for."

DeGale, unbeaten in seven fights as a professional, already has the WBA International super middleweight title and will face Carl Dilks in an eliminator for the British super-middleweight crown in his next fight.

"Getting nominated is great recognition in itself, so I'm delighted," said the 24-year-old DeGale.

"The competition is tough this year, so all I can do is keep on winning and let my fists do the talking."
