Manny Pacquiao v Juan Manuel Marquez: live updates and analysis

Seven years and four weight divisions from their first meeting Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez will complete the final instalment of a trilogy of fights tonight in what promises to be a war between warriors.

Having fought to a draw in 2004 and Pacquiao edging a split decision in 2008 tonight will allow the fighters to settle the score once and for all after two close and contentious bouts.

Marquez, 38, believes he won both his clashes with Pacquiao and has been seeking a ‘dream fight’ third showdown with the reigning WBO welterweight champion.

However, in order to have his dream come true the Mexican has had to climb two weight divisions from lightweight, where he reigns supreme, to welterweight. In his last move up the scales Marquez found himself on the losing side of a unanimous decision against the slick Floyd Mayweather Jr.

However, the well-known counter puncher insists he will be better prepared this time and sees Pacquiao’s aggressive approach working in his favour.

Pacquiao, meanwhile, has racked up the titles as he climbed the weight divisions and certainly looks like nothing can stop him. But Marquez is the fighter who has caused Pac-Man the most problems during their fights and, aside from Mayweather, could present the most danger to the boxing superstar. That is, of course, if Marquez is able to keep his reflexes, speed and power as he piles on the weight.

Pacquiao will almost certainly be the better boxer on the night in the classic sense of the word but Marquez has displayed his heart and determination time and again and will definitely come to fight and to win. Only time will tell who of these two tough warriors will emerge victorious in this third clash of champions!
