There are fears an injury sustained by Lee McAllister in his European light welterweight title defeat to Denis Shafikov could threaten his career.
The Aberdeen Assassin threw in the towel at the end of the seventh round on Saturday, having toiled against the hard-hitting Russian.
McAllister was booed by a capacity crowd at the AECC, with promoter Frank Maloney also critical of the fighter’s performance.
It is now feared he could be suffering from detached tendons in his left elbow, the same injury which kept him out for the bulk of 2010.
McAllister will undergo further hospital tests to gauge the severity of the injury. If scans confirm the injury, the boxer faces a battle to ensure his career doesn’t reach a premature end.
The Scot suffered the third defeat of his 37-fight career, while Shafikov remains undefeated in 29.
