A double from Mario Gomez put Germany in the quarter-finals of Euro 2012 and left Holland needing help to make the knockout stages.
Gomez strikes in the 23rd and 37th minutes put Germany in a commanding position and a Dutch side that failed to click in the first half offered little resistance.
Bert van Marwijk made changes at half time in a bid to rescue his sides chances and was rewarded with a goal from Robin van Persie, who had wasted chances earlier in the match.
The Dutch couldn't find an equaliser and now need to beat Portugal by two goals while hoping that Germany complete a hat-trick of victories with a win against Denmark in the final group games.
