Rangers’ appeal against a 12-month registration ban and fines of £160,000 will be heard on Wednesday evening by a Scottish FA panel.
The hearing, which will consist of Lord Carloway (chair), Craig Graham and Allan Cowan, is thought to be unlikely to result in a judgement on Wednesday.
The three will consider the initial punishment for four guilty verdicts relating to Rangers’ breach of the governing body’s rules, of which it was said "only match fixing in its various forms might be a more serious breach” of the regulations.
Termination of Rangers’ membership to play football in Scotland was previously considered but was deemed to be “too severe” to impose.
The appeals tribunal has a number of options in dealing with the case, ranging from affirming the original decision, upholding the appeal, upholding the appeal in part and referring the case back to the tribunal.
It also has the ability to either increase or decrease the original sanction imposed on the club. It also has the power to take any action it deems appropriate at its own discretion.
