Craig Levein insists Andy Webster has what it takes to be a regular on the international stage for Scotland.
The Hearts defender has been called up for the friendly with the USA later this month, putting him in contention for his first appearance for the national side since March 2010.
Webster will line up for the Edinburgh club in this weekend’s Scottish Cup final before linking up with Levein’s squad and the coach believes he can establish himself in his team for the World Cup 2014 qualifiers.
"Andy played in my first game in charge at Hampden against the Czech Republic," said Levein.
"He has had problems since then injury-wise and hasn't had a great run of games. He's now back playing on a regular basis.
"Hearts are in the Scottish Cup final and he has been excellent this season. There is no doubt he has international qualities as a player.
"His career has just been interrupted through injuries so he's back in."
Levein has also moved to defend the long trip to Florida to bring his squad together, saying the chance for a few days together will be of benefit.
"Going to America at the end of the season doesn't seem like a difficult situation for me," he said. "It's an opportunity for the lads to get together and play a game of football.
"They have great pride in representing their country. The fact that the weather is also good means it might be quite nice."
