Mark Brown wants to make history with a Hibernian Scottish Cup win

Goalkeeper Mark Brown wants to make history with his team-mates by upsetting the odds and defeating Hearts at Hampden.

The Hibs keeper has their city rivals pegged as favourites for the tie but said that his team are happy to have the pressure off them ahead of the final.

Brown, who got his chance in the starting line-up after first choice Graeme Stack was ruled out for the season through injury, said: “I don’t think we feel any pressure.

There is a pressure to win but I think everyone expects Hearts to win - they are the favourites, they finished above us in the league and they are unbeaten in ten derbies, as they like to keep to reminding us.

“It’s a case of it being a one-off on the day, we’ve got good quality in our squad so we are confident going in to the game.”

With 110 years since a Hibs Scottish Cup win and 116 years since the two teams met in the final, Brown knows he is playing in a historic match.

He said it was strange that so long had elapsed between the occasions but added that the prospect of making their own history would spur them on.

He said: “Not just for me, it’s a chance for the whole team to create a wee bit of history and do something special for the club.

“It’s strange two such big clubs haven’t met in a final before now but then again it’s also strange that a club like Hibs have went so long without winning the cup.

“When you look at the calibre of player here over the years it’s incredible to think that no-one has ever done it.”
