Croatia made them work and the Republic of Ireland put up a fight, but both Spain and Italy respectively secured their places in the quarter finals of Euro 2012 on Monday evening.
Spain, looking to win their third consecutive major tournament following success at Euro 2008 and the 2010 World Cup, will play the runners-up in Group D, with Italy facing the winners.
