St Mirren have confirmed Aaron Mooy has left the club to return home to Australia.

The club agreed to release the 21-year-old from his contract at Greenhill Road after discussions with manager Danny Lennon.

He is now expected to join A-League side West Sydney FC.

Mooy joined the club in October 2010 after coming through the ranks at Bolton Wanderers but made just 30 appearances for the Paisley side, scoring two goals.

One of those strikes was the winner against Rangers on Christmas Eve last year, helping Saints to a 2-1 win.

St Mirren general manager, Brian Caldwell told the club’s official website: “This move will give Aaron the opportunity to play more first team football which he really needs at this stage of his career.

“He has been in the UK for the last six years so I’m sure he will be glad to get back home to Australia where he will look to push on with his career.

“We would like to thank Aaron for his efforts while here at St Mirren and to wish him all the best for the future.”
