Scotland fans have been handed 20,000 tickets for the side’s first clash with England in 14 years.

Craig Levein’s team will take on the Auld Enemy at Wembley Stadium on Wednesday, August 14, next year.

The Scottish FA has announced that 20,000 of the 90,000 capacity in London will be taken up by the Tartan Army, with applications now being welcomed from supporters club members.

Normally away games would be sold at two months notice, but with demand set to be high for the special match, which marks the 150th anniversary of the English FA, the SFA will sell 15,000 tickets this year.

A spokesman for the SFA said: “In order to confirm our intention to use this full quantity of tickets we cannot wait until June 2013 when we would normally apply the tickets to the away points levels after the Croatia match.

“Therefore, we must gauge levels of demand now subject to the circumstance of this special one-off match. Therefore 5000 tickets have been protected and will be used in June 2013 after Croatia and applied in the normal away allocation process, where tickets are offered first to those members on ten points, nine points and so on until all tickets are allocated.”

The meeting of Scotland and England is the first since the 1999 European Championships play-off match. On that occasion a double by Paul Scholes at Hampden was enough to see England through, despite a spirited second leg at Wembley where a Don Hutchison goal won the match for the Scots.

Ticket prices and kick off time for the August 2013 game have yet to be confirmed.
