Dundee United tie up veteran Steve Banks on a new one year deal

Veteran goalkeeper Steve Banks is staying at Dundee United after penning a deal for another 12 months.

The 40-year-old stopper, who is also the club’s goalie coach, will support new first choice keeper Radoslaw Cierzniak.

Banks, who has turned out for West Ham United, Blackpool, Bolton Wanderers and Stoke City, among others, in his 22 year career, joined up at Tannadice in 2009 after four years at Heart of Midothian.

Speaking on the official Dundee United website, Banks said he could still do a job if called upon.

He said: “It's been three great years at the club and I didn't want that to end. Last season, I didn't get much game time but I know I can do a job if required and this contract shows that the club also believes in my ability, which is nice.

“If needed to play I am ready and signing this contract also allows me to continue coaching which I enjoy very much."

Peter Houston said he was delighted to keep Banks on the playing staff.

The Tangerines boss said: "Steve has been an excellent member of the squad since joining us in 2009. Whilst we have Radoslaw Cierzniak on board now it is comforting to know I have Steve to call upon if required.”
