SPL to take 'game-by-game' approach to rescheduling Dundee fixture clashes

The Scottish Premier League will not amend its fixture list following the promotion of Dundee.

The Dark Blues, who finished second in last season’s First Division, will replace Rangers in the top flight for the 2012/13 campaign and take over the games of “Club 12” in the schedule.

Those matches were based on Rangers’ continued participation in the SPL and, as such, throw up a number of weekends where both Dundee and Dundee United, who are based yards down the same street, are both scheduled to be at home.

A spokesperson for the league has told STV they will address each conflict on a case-by-case basis, instead of attempting to make drastic changes to the fixture list.

Dundee United’s continued participation in the Europa League, for example, could provide an opportunity for the Terrors to play on the Sunday and Dundee to play at home the day before.

The first competitive Dundee derby of the season will be played at Tannadice on August 18. Dens Park will then play host on December 8, before United are again at home to their rivals on March 16.
