Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United will travel to Aberdeen to take on the Dons at Pittodrie next month.
The match is being held on Tuesday, August 14 at 7pm as a testimonial for club legend Neil Simpson, who was part of Aberdeen’s successful European Cup Winners’ Cup team of 1983.
Simpson has been back at the club for ten years as a coach and said he was “honoured” that former Dons boss Sir Alex was set to bring his team of English Premier League stars to the Granite City.
Organising committee chairman Bob Bain said: "Sir Alex Ferguson was delighted to help out his former player and even though the game is just a few days before the start of the EPL season, he has given his assurances that he will bring as strong a squad as possible.
"Given who the opposition is allied to the fact Simmy is such a fans' favourite, there's no doubt the stadium will be rocking for what will undoubtedly be a fitting occasion for a true AFC legend."
Tickets will go on sale to season ticket holders from Friday.
