Inverness Caledonian Thistle are set to sign former Gillingham defender Simon King in time for Saturday's SPL opener against St Mirren.

King, who has impressed in pre-season training with the Highland club, is expected to complete a move on Wednesday after his contract with Gillingham formally expires.

In a statement published on the club's official site Caley boss Terry Butcher expressed his delight at the 29 year old's decision.

He said: "Simon has agreed to sign on Wednesday and that completes our first team pool. He's a useful acquisition with good experience and we're pleased to land him."

The defender made over 100 appearances for Gillingham since 2007, winning the League One club's Player of the Year award in 2009.

However, injury has blighted King since then, having spent 18 months on the sidelines due to an ankle injury.
