Scotland squad: Fox and Snodgrass will debut

Celtic’s Danny Fox and Leeds’ Robert Snodgrass have been handed debut Scotland call-ups for the friendly against Japan.

The squad announcement is Burley's first duty since he kept his job in the aftermath of the failure to qualify for the 2010 South Africa World Cup.

Full-back Fox joined Celtic from Coventry this summer has been impressive at European and SPL level, while Snodgrass has been on-form with the English league one leaders.

There were also recalls for Derek Riordan, Ross Wallace, Charlie Adam and Kevin Thomson.

Thomson’s Rangers team mates Kenny Miller, Davie Weir and Neil Alexander have been omitted from the squad. Notably, James McFadden was also left out of the squad.

Goalkeepers: Gordon (Sunderland), Langfield (Aberdeen), Marshall (Cardiff).

Defenders: Barr (Falkirk), Berra (Wolves), Caldwell (Celtic), Fox (Celtic), Hutton (Tottenham), McManus (Celtic) Whittaker (Rangers)

Midfielders: Adam (Blackpool), Brown (Celtic), Dorrans (West Brom ), Fletcher (Manchester United ), Maloney (Celtic), Snodgrass (Leeds United ), Thomson (Rangers), Wallace (Preston North End),

Forwards: S Fletcher (Burnley), Naismith (Rangers), O'Connor (Birmingham City), Riordan (Hibernian).
