This is last match of three ties between Celtic and Rapid Vienna in 1984. It was to go down in history as one of the nastiest which Celtic were involved as their furious fans attacked the Austrian players.
The teams had already played two fiery ties which Celtic won 4-3 on aggregate, but Rapid demanded a replay after one of their players pretended to be hit by a bottle at Parkhead, and Uefa granted it.
As the footage shows, Celtic nearly had the opening goal, but it was that near miss for Celtic which led to the only goal of the game – for Rapid.
Frank McGarvey made a great turn on the edge of the box before firing a ball across the face of goal. Roy Aitken, another legend, hit a first time shot but his effort struck the post and rebounded.
The goalmouth scramble fell for the Austrians and in a flash the counter was on: in just two passes Peter Pacult, the current Rapid manager, was one-on-one with Paddy Bonnar.
He made no bones about rounding Bonnar and slipping the ball into the net for the only goal of the match, although you can see him brick-it when the ball nearly squirms wide.
Enraged, a Celtic fan ran on the pitch and assaulted the goalkeeper. Three policemen dragged the fan him away as another Rapid player helped his mate off the ground.
The goal was the decider, but the trouble continued: the players left the pitch as more fans were streaming. You can clearly see one of the celebrating Rapid players receiving a boot to the crotch as he heads for the tunnel.
