Speaking after John Hughes' high flying Hibs side held the champions to draw in their own backyard, Light blues manager Walter Smith bemoaned the chances his side spurned that could see Celtic leapfrog Rangers to go top of the table if they beat Hamilton tomorrow
Smith praised his team for upping the game after Tuesday's woeful performance in Europe midweek .
But he couldn't hide his disappointment at not securing all three points in what was an entertaining game.
'It was an open game. I think the first couple of minutes where Hibs had a chance then we had a chance summed it up,'' he told STV.
''Allan McGregor had a couple of saves to make. But from our point of view there were an awful lot of opportunities missed.''
He went on: 'That's probably the greatest number of opportunities we've created all season and it was an entertaining game to watch for everybody - except me.''
Reflecting on events over the past week when the Ibrox men endured a humiliating Champions League defeat by Romanian minnows Unirea Urcizenih, that saw supporters voting with their feet and voicing their anger on the night , Smith said he understood their frustration.
''It wasn't an easy lead up to the game. It's not easy here for any player, or any manager, when things aren't going well but the reaction was good.
''It's been an up and down start to the season and I've no complaints about the reaction from supporters on Tuesday night.'
