Birmingham City striker Garry O'Connor could be on his way back to Scotland in January, with Celtic winger Aiden McGeady heading the other way in a swap deal. With Celtic's lack of serious firepower evident in recent weeks, Tony Mowbray is rumoured to be keen to bring ex-Hibs player O'Connor back to the country he left for Russia in 2006 when he moved to Lokomotiv Moscow.
O'Connor is out of contract in the summer and the Scottish Sun report that Mowbray is a fan of the 26-year-old, who he worked with at Easter Road for two years. A January move could be in the offing in a cut-price deal, with Ireland international McGeady moving to St Andrews for around £8 million.
Brum boss Alex McLeish's transfer kitty has been swelled by the arrival of Hong Kong businessman Carson Yeung this month, with the new owner promising £40 million for new players in the January transfer window to ensure Birmingham's Premier League survival.
Celtic fans are likely to be divided on the prospect of McGeady heading in the opposite direction, despite a respectable start to the season which has seen him net three times in five league games.
McGeady has been linked with a move to the city of Birmingham before, when former Celtic boss Martin O'Neill was believed to be trying to tempt the 23-year-old over the border.
O'Connor arrived at the Midlands club in 2007 when they shelled out £2.7m to bring him back to the UK from Russia. He scored on his Birmingham debut in a 2-2 draw with Sunderland but has struggled to hold down a regular place in the side.
The Edinburgh born player also has 16 Scotland caps to his name, with four goals scored. He is without an international goal since his strike in Euro 2008 qualifying against the Faroe Islands, following up his goal against the Faroes earlier in the campaign.
McLeish was also linked on Friday with a raid on the other side of Glasgow, with a reported interest in Rangers midfielder Steven Davis. A £3m offer is reportedly being lined up and with the Ibrox club seemingly in no state to refuse cash offers for their star players, former Fulham player Davis could be set to move back to the English Premier League.
