Kevin Kyle has admitted that he would dive in order to win a penalty in an important game. The striker said it wasn’t his natural game but that would take the chance if it meant a vital win for his side.
Kyle was speaking as the diving debate resurfaced after Liverpool’s David N’Gog won a controversial spot-kick against Birmingham in the English Premier League. Alex McLeish’s Birmingham City side were leading Liverpool 2-1 at Anfield when the French striker went down in the box despite there being no contact from Lee Carsley.
"A lot has been made of diving and, to be perfectly honest, I don't know how to dive because I'm just not that kind of person,” Kyle said.
"But, if it meant my team getting an advantage and a penalty? I would probably take the opportunity.
“I'm not going to lie, I'm an honest kind of person.”
The striker openly admitted that the importance of a win meant that as a player he would do anything to get three points for his side. If that meant deceiving a referee then it would be worth the inevitable criticism that would follow.
"I probably would because you go out on a Saturday afternoon just wanting your team to win at any cost and you take every opportunity that's available to you,” Kyle admitted.
"Yes, you will get criticised and hounded by the press and slaughtered for doing it. But, at the end of the day, the only thing that matters is your team getting a victory."
