Pressure is building on the Scotland manager after four defeats in four away games without his side managing to find the net.
And speaking after the match which an ashen faced Burley said: ‘’Usually with friendlies you’re looking to learn things.
"But it was day where you couldn’t really say we came out with any credit as far as the performance and the way we conceded the goals. It was really disappointing.
"We’re looking to improve. We felt at the end of the World Cup campaign that we’re going in the right direction. But they certainly never showed that today.’’
A large travelling support made their way to Cardiff. They weren’t slow in voicing their disappointment and Burley admitted he had some sympathy with them.
“I’m not surprised with the manner of the defeat," he said.
“First 20 minutes we started brightly enough and had chances but we folded like a pack of cards. The goals we gave away were shocking and we never recovered from that spell in the first half.”
Asked if the defeat will inevitably pile the pressure on as far as his own position as manager was concerned he added:
“That’s life. We’ll have to have a look at it , assess it and take it from there.”
Wales boss John Toshack was in a magnanimous mood claiming ‘”the Scots let us off the hook a little bit early on. I thought they had the better of the early exchanges.
"They had a few decent chances and their finishing didn’t maybe match their approach work and then we got good goals at the right time.
"3-0 at half time wasn’t a true reflection of the game. I thought the Scots possibly deserved a little bit more than that."
