Barry Ferguson and Allan McGregor could be brought back into the Scotland fold by the new manager, according to the SFA. Speaking to press today chief executive Gordon Smith said the new manager would have the power to “let them off the hook”.
The Rangers pair were exiled after the “boozegate” affair while on Scotland duty and are among a group of players who were frozen out after a range of incidents and fall-outs.
Smith added that other players like Kris Boyd, would be allowed a route back thanks to a new "code of conduct" which he had introduced.
“There were some decisions that were made before but I have introduced a new code of conduct which means the manger has makes decisions on all forms of discipline.
“The new manager will be given the license to pick whoever they want. The manager will have the final say and if he decides he want them back it will be his responsibility entirely.”
“The new manager would be able to let them off the hook if he decided he wanted them back and they decided they want to come back.”
He added: “If those who are out of the squad at the moment show they want to play for Scotland then they will be available for the manager to pick.”
Smith was outlining the route which the SFA will take to appoint their fifth manager in five years.
He insisted that no quick decision will be made, targeting the Euro 2012 qualification draw in February next year as the deadline.
He added that the next SFA board meeting was in early December.
