Glasgow millionaire Willie Haughey has ruled out funding a high profile manager for Scotland in the wake of the latest search for a football boss.
The SFA had said yesterday that they would consider a financial structure similar to the Irish model. The Irish FA enjoy a sponsorship from businessman Denis O'Brien which enables them to employ Giovanni Trappatoni.
SFA chief executive Gordon Smith said: "Ireland did it on a different basis. They did it with a sponsor, so that's a different way of doing it.
"Whether that can be achieved, attained, is something that we'll have to look at."
But Haughey, who already funds the Scottish Cup to the tune of a reported £1million each year as part of a two-year deal, has quickly dashed hopes that he will pump more cash into the managerial problem.
He said: "I wouldn't be interested. Not at all.
"I am happy to sponsor Scottish football at grass-roots level, which is what I did with the Scottish Cup, but I would not be interested in sponsoring an individual."
The SFA paid George Burley £300,000 per year in comparison to the £1.8million which the Irish pay Trappatoni.
The Italian manager oversaw Ireland’s desperately unlucky bid to reach the World Cup finals, which saw them lose just once in their qualification campaign.
