Rangers star Allan McGregor is set to be the target of a £4million transfer bid from West Ham United. The English side are looking to shuffle their keepers as they bid to keep their Premier League status.
McGregor’s stunning but futile performance against Stuttgart this week gave further notice of his excellent current form.
West Ham, who are sitting just outside the relegation zone, are likely to be forced to sell some of their assets in the face of mounting debt. Rangers’ financial concerns mean they will consider all bids in the January transfer window and the domino effect could see the two clubs doing business.
Sunderland are eyeing Hammers and England keeper Robert Green in a £10million move to replace injured Craig Gordon, which would leave vacancy for McGregor.
The Rangers keeper has been boosted by the news that he could soon be back in the dark blue of Scotland after the SFA's decision to scrap the “lifetime ban” which he earned for his part in the "boozegate" scandal.
Although his heroics on Tuesday night couldn’t stop a 2-0 defeat and exit from Europe, McGregor did earn consolation praise from Stuttgart’s Alexander Hleb.
Hleb, on loan from Barcelona, said that McGregor had shown the talent to go on to enjoy a successful career in the English top flight.
"Good keepers like this will always have the chance to go to the Premiership and he could certainly play for a team of the quality of Manchester City or Manchester United," said Hleb.
