Scottish Cup sends through three non-league teams

Five non-league teams will be in Monday’s draw for the Scottish Cup fourth round after Saturday’s round three action. Edinburgh City, Inverurie Loco Works and Irvine Meadow will be in the draw outright, whilst Cove Rangers and Wick Academy will contest replays against league opposition.

Cove’s game at Stenhousemuir was abandoned at half-time because of fog with the game deadlocked at 1-1. Clyde’s home game with Third Division leaders Livingston also fell victim to the conditions and was abandoned during the first half with Livi one goal ahead.

Junior side Irvine Meadow pulled off the shock of the round with a 1-0 home win against Second Division Arbroath. With 36 minutes on the clock, Brian McGinty set up Richie Barr to nudge the ball past Darren Hill in the Arbroath goal.

Fellow Junior competitors Auchinleck Talbot ran league opponents close, but eventually succumbed to a 2-1 away defeat at Second Division side Stirling Albion.

Highland League club Wick Academy came close to a shock, leading Brechin City 4-2. But late goals from Rory McAllister and Charlie King ensured the league side would have home advantage in a replay.

First Division bottom club Airdrie United also bagged a surprise result as they romped to a 4-0 win over league leaders Queen of the South.

Non-league clubs Deveronvale, Keith, Spartans and Threave Rovers exited the competition. There will be six replays, with the games between Cowdenbeath and Alloa Athletic; Montrose and East Fife; Morton and Dumbarton; and Raith Rovers and Peterhead all ended in draws.

The draw for the fourth round of the competition will be held on Monday at Hampden Park. Recently retired Celtic defender John Kennedy and ex-Rangers captain Richard Gough will be responsible for the draw, which will see the 12 SPL clubs and remaining four First Division clubs enter the running.

Scottish Cup Third Round results: Airdrie 4-0 Queen of the South, Albion Rovers 1-0 Elgin City, Cowdenbeath 0-0 Alloa Athletic, Deveronvale 0-1 Ayr United, Edinburgh City 3-0 Keith, Montrose 1-1 East Fife, Morton 0-0 Dumbarton, Raith Rovers 0-0 Peterhead, Ross County 4-1 Berwick, Spartans 0-1 Forfar Athletic, Stirling Albion 2-1 Auchinleck Talbot, Threave Rovers 0-2 Inverurie Loco Works, Wick Academy 4-4 Brechin City, Irvine Meadow 1-0 Arbroath.

Abandoned ties: Stenhousemuir 1-1 Cove Rangers (called off at half-time), Clyde 0-1 Livingston (called-off during the first half).
