A happy John Hughes carefully tried to manage expectation after his side racked up another win to keep them in the SPL title hunt. A convincing 2-0 win over Motherwell kept the Easter Road side within touching distance of the top but Hughes said there was still work to be done on his entertaining side.
"It's a good victory against a well-organised, passing Motherwell side," Hughes said.
"It had to be but we're not getting carried away. You keep your feet in the ground in this league. Anybody in the SPL is capable of beating each other on their day. The Old Firm are still out in front.
“We'll just keep on winning football matches and see where it takes us."
Despite being wary of talk of a title challenge, the Hibs boss was clear that he had high standards that he expected his players to meet.
"I felt the performance was good, it was hard-working and it had to be,” he said.
That's the demands we're setting and the boys are living up to it."
“Anything you get in football, you make sure you're putting it in, because, if you don't, you'll come unstuck. If you saw us against St Mirren two weeks ago, we were very fortunate to come away with a point. We still need to work hard on that consistency."
Motherwell boss Jim Gannon refused to talk to the media following his side’s defeat and would not make any of his players available for comment. Gannon had previously complained about how his comments had been interpreted and last week became embroiled in a public argument with SFA referee’s chief Hugh Dallas.
