Scotland boss Craig Levein gets stuck into his new post by making sure no stone is left unturned as he takes a close look at the Scottish football potential across the UK.
On Saturday, the new national team boss announced his plans to have a bigger than normal squad till he gets into the swing of the job, hoping to have around 28 players to pull from the training team.
“I have done a lot of travelling,” he said.
“We have 15/16 players playing in the Premiership in England now which I think is fantastic and we have over 60 players playing in the championship in England.”
Accompanied by scout Michael Oliver, Levein has been meeting with players up and down the country to try and uncover a future star for Scotland.
Hoping to get a “better structure in place” and move away from the former word-of-mouth system of establishing players with Scottish heritage, Levein is hopeful that a better scouting system will make it easier to uncover eligible players, whether through established bloodline or the new Home Nations agreement.
“Generally, we try to watch a game and then go to a training ground somewhere else the next day.
“I have been really busy doing that. I have been watching games up here, trying to get some stuff organised with regard to getting a structure in place particular for the scouting side of things so things have been really busy.”
