Forget Keane, Rangers have SPL’s top gun, says Miller

Best in the business: Boyd will keep banging them in, says Miller.

Kenny Miller says Rangers don’t have to worry about the strikers Celtic have added to their squad because they already have the most lethal goalscorer in the SPL. The Scotland forward said that Kris Boyd returning to the Rangers team will see him top the scoring charts and deliver success for the Ibrox club.

Celtic have revamped their strike force in the January window, offloading Scott McDonald and Chris Killen and bringing in a trio of hitmen. Morten Rasmussen, Diomansy Kamara and Robbie Keane all came through the door during the transfer window and all three showed they pose a threat by scoring last weekend.

Miller was insistent that even though Rangers’ title rivals had added goalscorers, his team already had a range of forwards in place who could do the business. He said the main man in that group was Boyd, who made his first appearance after recovering from a hernia operation when he came off the bench against St Mirren on Saturday.

“If you ask me who is going to score the most goals between now and the end of the season there is no doubt Boydy will do that,” Miller said.

“If I can chip in as well, with the type of goals I have been scoring recently, then I think we have got enough.

“Celtic have brought in three or four forwards over the last eight months. But we have got four of five forwards as well so we’ve got enough firepower to go and win this league.”

Miller praised the players who had come in when he and Boyd were injured and launched a defence of under-fire striker Kyle Lafferty. The Northern Ireland forward has been criticised by fans and pundits after a series of disappointing performances.

“You’ve seen in our absence that Stevie Naismith and Nacho Novo can chip in while big Kyle Lafferty, as much as he’s been getting stick, can bring something to the table,” he added.

“He’s just a wee bit low on confidence, with a lot of people getting on his back but there’s no doubt he’s got it in him.”
