Jefferies intends to keep Romanov happy

Hearts manager Jim Jefferies revealed he has a good relationship with owner Vladimir Romanov and he plans to continue his success at the club to keep the boss happy.

Jefferies, who has won three of his last four games, insists he gets on well with the top dogs at the Edinburgh club including sporting director Alex Metlitski and director Sergeyjus Fedotovas.

Speaking of Romanov, Jefferies said: “Yeah I’ve spoken to him. I’ve not spoken to him in full, but I get on fine with him. I know what the situation is in terms of who I’ve got to report to and I get on great with Alex and Serge and them all so everything is very positive.”

Romanov has had a stormy relationship with managers since buying a majority stake in the club in 2005. In his five years in charge Romanov has worked with seven managers.

“I know everybody says things that have happened in the past, but that is nothing to do with me," Jefferies said.

“I’ll do what I think is right, working along with the owner and Serge and Alex, and take it on from there.”

Jefferies, who captained the Jambos as a player, revealed Metlitski is a key part in the day to day running of the club and a link from the pitch to the board.

“I discuss with Alex every day, he’s at training every day. As I’ve said before, maybe I’m lucky he’s an ex-player who played late in his career and he knows the game.

“We’re sort of on the same wavelength when we’re discussing situations about football and players and in general. I have no problems at all and the word I get back from Alex is that Mr Romanov is happy and I hope to keep him happy.”

The manager, whose side are currently sitting sixth in the SPL, refused to speculate about turbulent times in the past between managers and Romanov.

“Everybody is different. Whatever has happened in the past, happened in the past, there’s nothing I can do about that. I’m not even going to go into it because people have their own agendas to have a go because things are not working for them.

“So far I have not had any problems and I don’t anticipate any problems. With the experience I’ve got I know how to handle a lot of situations.”

He added: “I’ve had a few owners in my time and they’re all different and you just have to deal with it.”
