FULL -TIME Hearts take all three points at Tynecastle thanks to Andrew Driver and Gary Geln's first half strike. The home-side manged to keep control for most of the game to secure the win. And of the battle of the managers, well Jefferies certainly won that over his former student Hughes.
92" Hibs on the attack, trying to find a way to get it in the box. Thicot strikes from miles out and hits it miles over. Could have been their last chance.
90" Three minutes added on time - home straight for Hearts if they can't keep control. Hibs need to do something, anything, to get near the Hearts goal for one last chance at getting a point.
90" Stokes gets in behind the defence but can't get onto the through-ball. A great chance in the final minute of 90 mins.
87" Stevenson (Hearts) has a dig from Drivers pass just inside the box. Stack saves for a corner but nothing comes of it. Pressure still on Hibs however.
86" Suso Santana and Stevenson square up to each other in a 'hold-me-back' moment. Get over boys, there's a game to be fought.
84" Riorden's free-kick was too far out to have a dig, but instead flighted it in, but as has happened so often the Hearts defence ensured it was cleared out of the danger area.
84" Hearts still look to be in control of the game in terms of possession and continue their pressure at the Hibs goal.
82" Wotherspoon turns and races into the box, stalked by two defenders, he gets the corss off but again Balogh catches tight to his chest.
81" Hearts take off Kingston (who was down ealier) and bring on Craig Thomson, their final substitute.
80" Hibs have a corner but Riorden's in-swinging cross is collected by Balogh. Hibs may have a bit of fight left to get a point from this match.
GOAL - Hibs, Wotherspoon's cross falls out to Riorden who sends it up off the underside of the bar past Balogh.
76" Obua strikes from 20 yards out and sends it past the goals by about the same margin.
75" Kingston is taken for some wonder spray on the sideline before returning to the field. Signs of tiredness possibly?
74" Balogh pulls off an impressive diving save, but doesn't manage to keep hold of the crossed ball. Fortunetly for him it doesn't fall to a player in green and white.
73" Yet again Hearts threaten to net that third goal and don't seem comfortable with just the two goals.
70" Hearts still pressuring. Kingston sends the ball into the box, but Stack collects. It is fair to say the keeper looks more relaxed than in the first half where he was all over the place. He has pulled off some good saves to stop Hearts extending their lead.
67" Benjelloun links up well with Riorden and the one-two comes back to him but skies it over from 15 yards. Think he had his eye on that top corner, just a bit too much.
66" Driver skips past the Hibs defence and lobs Stack, but the returning defence clear it just before it crosses the line. A nice bit of play from the man who has just returned from injury.
65" Riorden and John Hughes share some angry words as Hibs are dominated by their opponents.
We're being beaten in every area of the park by an average Hearts side. Unbelievable - Jon via email
59" The Hibs midfield link up well to set up Riorden, but his shot is deflected out to Stokes who tries to dance past the Hearts defence, but is closed down. The Hearts defence have been strong in shutting out Riorden and Stokes, but Hibs are still threatening, just not frequent enough.
58" Hibs have a weak penalty claim turned down as Bamba goes down in the box. There was no way the ref was giving that.
56" Driver makes a run down the left wing towards goal and sends the low ball into the box but the oncoming Glen can't get onto the end of it. It is really turning out to be a one-sided affair.
55" Murray gets a warning from ref Collum for a handball. Kingston takes Hearts free-kick and sends it into the box. Stack manages to somehow keep out the touch from Glen.
53" Hibs make a change. Rankin comes off to make way for Benjelloun.
52" Glen gets the return on a one-two from Obua and is clear through on the Hibs keeper. Glen tries to go round Stack, but his tough was too heavy and it goes out. Hughes is furious on the touchline.
50" Hearts back on the attack at the other end. Glen clears for a corner. Driver sends it in but Hibs kekeper Stack just about keeps hold of it. Hearts back up again as the continue their relentless attack but again Stack collects.
49" Hibs win a free-kick outside the box. Riorden strikes, but sends it well over. Another wasted opportunity as Hibs try to find a way back into the match.
47" Hearts still fighting and have won a corner. Driver send sit in and it nearly drops for Palazuelos, but instead Suso Santan sends it sky high.
46" Obua gets past the Hibs defence and cuts back across the face of goal to Suso Santana who somehow manages to send it over from two yards out! A major let-off for the sleeping Hibs defence.
45" Hearts start as they finished with Thomson's cross finding Obua who strikes first time, but just over the bar. There's no comlacency in this Hearts side.
2nd HALF KICK-OFF - Hibs get the game underway as they look to find a way back into the match
John Hughes' passion hasn't trasfered to his players. When Hughes spoke in a video interview of being inspired by Manchester United's victory over AC Milan earlier this month, even I was motivated to lace up my boots (unfortunetly I never had them with me and I was in the office without a ball).
A disasterous for John Hughes' Hibs, but Jefferies will be delighted with the way his team have been playing. The home-side took control of the first half after the goals as Hibs seemed to put their heads down.
HALF TIME: Hearts in front 2-0 after the first half of this Edinburgh derby at Tynecastle thanks to Andrew Driver and Gary Glen. Hibs now have it all to do.
47" Riorden takes the corner, it is cleared but Riorden gets it back and fails to capitalise. Just not his day...so far.
46" Riorden comes close to getting a goal back but it penalised for clashing with the Hearts defender as he tried to get on the end of Wotherspoon's cross. Would have been a god time to get one back and remind the Jambos they are still in the game.
45" Four minutes added on to the first half. Been quite eventful so far, plenty of stappages to make up for.
43" Bamba lies on the deck after challenging Balogh for the high ball. No contact was made but Bamba landed on his back. He looks to be ok though as he limps hurridly off to the touchline to come back on.
41" Driver takes it and the Hibs defence deal with it comfortably. Hibs now have a free kick on the half-way line. Hearts defence clear well.
40" Signs of frustration showing now in the Hibs players. Thomson takes a long throw-in into the box. Hearts corner.
38" Hibs need to get their act together if they have any chance of pulling this one back. Hearts are continually in the Hibs half and taking control of the match. Im sure Hughes will have a lot of loud words to say to his team after what has been a disasterous first half.
36" Thomson makes a run into the box, his strike is closed down. Hearts corner is sent into the goal mouth, Palazuelos gets onto the end of it but the crowded box ensures it bounces around and back out away from goal. I don't think the Hibs defence knew much about that.
35" Witherspoon sends it out to Riorden who wins a corner from his deflected shot, but Hibs fail to take advantage of the opportunity.
34" Miller sends it out to Riorden on the wing, but his cross back over has too much on it and bounces out. Doesn't know his own strength.
33 " Hibs now struggling to find their form and settle, although Riordon just fired wide from the edge of the box. The threat is evidently still there without the possession.
31" The free-kick flies just over Stack and past the top corner of the Hibs goal. Stack will be relieved it wasn't on target as he clearly was in no position to get to it.
30 " Hearts scored two in thre minutes and are now building up momentum. All Hearts now as they keep the pressure on Hibs. Stevenson gets booked for holding back Santana after knocking the ball past his opponent.
29 " Obua came close to making it 3-0 after getting his head on the end of Drivers cross. He couldn't keep it down though and watches as it flies over with pace.
28 " Stack comes out of the box chasing the ball, but misses. He is way out and has to run back to goal. Lucky his team-mates save the day which is getting even worse for the keeper.
GOAL: Glenn - Hearts 2-0 Glen gets onto the end of Jonsson intital header, from a corner, and drifts it past Stack.
25 min: Black has been subbed for Stevenson. Hearts now have one substitute left but game is stopped - Kingston is on the deck, but rejoins play.
GOAL: Andy Driver - Hearts 1-0 Santana's cross bounces of the post to Driver at the penalty spo and Driver digs it into the top corner.
22 " Thicot takes the free kick but Bamba is closed down by Obua. Hearts have a free-kick but Kingston's delivery bounces around before breaking to the Hibs midfield.
21" Driver gives away a foul on the right wing in his own half. The game is stopped however as Black again receives treatment for his head knock. It looks likely he will come off.
20": The referee in today's match at Tynecastle is Willie Collum. Hearts boss Jefferies questioned the decision of Collums appointment after refusing to overturn a red card he gave to Kingston.
17 min: Black remains on the field but Suso Santana comes on for Kucharski who has a hamstring injury. Jefferies forced to change his side so early in the game.
16 min: Stokes and Wotherspoon look to take advantage and link up outside the box, but the Jambo's defence close down to send it up the park and Kingston fires just over from outside the box. It had the pace but not the accuracy to threaten Stack.
15 min: Game resumes while Black is treated on the touchline after the clash against Palazuelos' back-side. Black may be subbed for Suso Santana who has been stripped and waiting at the side of the park.
13 min: Palazuelos clashes with team-mate Black and leaves him on the deck. Ref halts play to allow Black to be treated.
12 min: Stokes, the former Falkirk striker under Hughes, tried to get on the end of a long ball, but it was just too far in front of him and bounced out.
11 min: Hibs are playing the better football and look more comfortable. They are enjoying more of the possession, but no goals so far and anything can happen in these derby matches.
10 min: Wotherspoon on the run down the right wing, but ended in an easy save for Balogh.
9 min: Stokes strikes from outside the box. There were options on the wing, but the striker went for it alone, but failed to get any power on the off-target shot.
8 min: The previous two Edinburgh derbies ended in a draw, both sides will be looking to take control and finish the other off, for bragging rights at least.
6 min: A breakdown of communication by Wotherspoon sees a counter attack foiled. Hearts back up at the Hibs goal Bamba had to clear as the slow ball trickled to the keeper, not quick enough to see off the Hearts threat.
5 min: Driver wins a free-kick and takes it quickly out to Walace who crosses. Corner to Hearts, but doesn;t come to anything. Hearts now taking control for a spell.
4 min: Hibs defend well and get a throw-in at their own corner. The fast-pace may not last but its really up and down in the first few minutes. Hope they have had their weetabix this morning.
3 min: Riorden takes a quick free-kick and makes run into the box only for the ball to be cleared. Hearts now on the attack with Obua.
1 min: Hibs playing the better football as they hold possession and pass well in the Hearts half. Thicot's cross deflected out for a throw-in.
Kick-Off: Hearts get the game under way.
12.14pm: The derby match sees both managers fighting for different objectives. Hearts will be happy with a top six finish come split time while Hibs chase the third spot in the SPL and that Europa League spot.
12.13pm: The players exit the tunnel to a roar from both sets of fans
12.09pm: Hearts line-up: Balogh, Kucharski, Wallace, Obua, Thomson, Jonsson, Palazuelos, Black, Kingston, Driver, Glen.
Substitutes: MacDonald, Suso Santana, Stevenson, Thomson, Nade, Templeton, Robinson.
Hibernian line-up: Stack, Murray, Thicot, Bamba, Rankin, Stevenson, McBride, David Wotherspoon, Miller, Riordan, Stokes.
Substitutes: Smith, Hanlon, McCormack, Cregg, Danny Galbraith, Benjelloun, Byrne.
12.02pm: Hughes and Jefferies' relationship goes back to their days at Berwick Rangers in the 80s when Hughes played under his counterpart and again at Falkirk. They have since become good friends, but all that will go out the window when they sit in the dugout (or scream from the touchline) at Tynecastle today.
12pm: 15 minutes to kick off
12pm: I once knew a guy who played for Motherwell (not mentioning any names) and was a diehard Celtic fan. He netted the winner for the Fir Park side against the Hoops. Needless to say he got a lot of stick that night in the pub from the Celtic fans, some more aggresive than others.
Not from me of course. I'm totally impartial in football. Except when it comes to Calderbraes 2000s. "We'll be coming, we'll be coming, we'll be coming down the road. When you hear the noise of the Calderbraes boys..." so on and so forth.
11.56: There's no way you would play for a rival of the team you support! It's like Kenny Miller signing for Celtic or Neil McCann for Rangers - it just wouldn't happen....
11.52am. Hearts v Hibs is shaping up to be Jefferies v Hughes encounter after it was revealed the Hearts boss tried to bring Hughes to Tynecastle as a player.
Yogi was having none of it! Saying there was no way would have been a Jambo.
The Edinburgh derby is shaping up to be a fiery fixture as Hibs boss John Hughes takes on his former boss Jim Jefferies at Tynecastle.
Alan Gow and Kevin McCann remain out for Hibs, while Colin Nish sits out the last game of his three-match ban.
The Easter Road side are hopeful Sol Bamba, Merouane Zemmama and Lewis Stevenson will return from injury for today’s derby.
Hearts meanwhile continue their injury crisis with possible Celtic target Jose Goncalves, Ryan Stevenson, Calum Elliot and Arvydas Novikovas joining the club's lengthy injury list.
Injury returns Andrew Driver, Craig Thomson and Scott Robinson may yet play if they are deemed fully fit.
Hibernian squad: Stack, McCormack, Bamba, Murray, Hogg, Hanlon, Zemmama, McBride, Miller, Rankin, Stokes, Riordan, Stevenson, Cregg, Galbraith, Wotherspoon, Benjelloun, Thicot, Smith.
Hearts sqaud: Balogh, L Wallace, Kucharski, Goncalves, J Thomson, Obua, Jonsson, Kingston, Stevenson, Suso, Smith, Glen, Novikovas, Elliot, Mulrooney, Nade, Mole, Templeton, Robinson, MacDonald.
