Last season’s SPL top scorer Gary Hooper got off the mark in the new campaign with a first half goal against Dundee.
The goal set Celtic on the road to three points at home to the SPL new boys, with Victor Wanyama adding a second after the break.
The Englishman’s last league strikes at Celtic Park came when he scored all five goals in the 5-0 demolition of Hearts in the final game of last season.
Hooper was denied adding to his tally by the woodwork and an inspired Rab Douglas in goals for the Dees.
Manager Neil Lennon said: “We had to wait a wee while for the breakthrough but it was a quality goal from Gary after really good play between him and Scott [Brown].
"I thought Gary was unlucky with the one that hit the post, he took a great first touch but Rab made some fine saves, especially in the second half."
