Aberdeen boss Craig Brown was happy with his team’s display as they beat Forfar Athletic 4-0 at Station Park.
The Dons have endured several cup nightmares in recent seasons, most notably their League Cup penalty loss to East Fife.
However there was no upset against Second Division Forfar thanks to goals from Scott Vernon, Mohamed Chalali, Rory Fallon and Mitch Megginson.
The Dons manager was pleased the margin of victory.
Brown said: "We are pleased with the eventual outcome of the game. We played only in patches in difficult conditions for both teams.
"Forfar gave us a very difficult task and I think we scored with our only two goal attempts in the first half and that is credit to Dick Campbell and his men.
"It was a professional job but we got every break going today and we're grateful for that."
The only down side for the Granite City men came were the injuries suffered by Peter Pawlett and Isaac Osbourne and Scott Vernon.
Brown added: "I'm not happy with the injuries as they are likely to be struggling for next week.
"Both Isaac and Peter have hamstring injuries and they are tricky ones to clear. Scott has a dead leg and he says it's the worst he's experienced but hopefully a day or two of treatment will sort him."
