St Mirren manager Danny Lennon says Graham Carey must contribute more in matches, despite the dead-ball specialist’s performance in the Scottish Cup replay win over Hamilton Academical.
The former Celtic midfielder scored the only goal of the night at New Douglas Park, firing home from the edge of the box and beating Accies keeper Tomas Cerny with a low effort into the corner.
Carey nearly made it two when he brought a fine save out of Cerny with a trademark free-kick and his boss hailed his efforts, but says he must impose himself more on the 90 minutes.
"You look at what Graham possesses and all I would say is that I wish he would give us that for longer spells in the games," said Lennon.
"He sort of filters in and out of games. But he had another terrific strike as well and I must admit that was one of the top strikes I've seen this season. It was fantastic.
"He is a hell of a striker of a ball and a great talent."
The Paisley side now progress to face Ross County in the fifth round and Lennon is happy his team were able to overcome their former SPL adversaries at the second time of asking.
"We are absolutely delighted to be in the next round," added Lennon. "We knew it would be a very difficult challenge coming here.
"We were expecting Hamilton to come out at some stage and they put a bit more pressure on in terms of getting bodies forward.
"I felt we could have handled that better in terms of getting the ball down and playing.
"We are just delighted to be in the hat, to keep the dream alive and keep a clean-sheet."
