Daniel Cousin is in talks over a surprise return to Rangers, according to his agent.

The striker, who left the club in 2008, could return to Ibrox on a deal until the end of the season, according to reports.

Cousin captained Gabon to the quarter finals of the Africa Cup of Nations, before their exit on penalties to Mali on Sunday.

Without a club following his departure from Sapins, the 35-year-old could now answer manager Ally McCoist's call for urgent reinforcements in attack.

"Daniel had talks with Ally McCoist today [Tuesday] and everything looks very positive," Cousin's agent, Willie McKay, told the Daily Record.

"He has a few offers on the table because of his recent form with Gabon but he is keen on the idea of returning to Rangers."

Rangers' move for the player depends on finance, as well as confirmation his contract with Sapins was terminated before the close of the transfer window.

Cousin played 42 times for Rangers in a one-year spell, scoring 13 goals.

He was part of the side which went all the way to the 2008 UEFA Cup final, but missed the defeat to Zenit St Petersburg through suspension.

If the move was to go through, Cousin would be suspended for one SPL match as he is still to serve a ban for a red card shown against Celtic in his final game for Rangers.
