Rangers midfielder Lee McCulloch says he hopes the imminent arrival of Daniel Cousin will give the Ibrox dressing room a lift.

The 35-year-old is expected to rejoin Ally McCoist’s men early in the week once the club receive paperwork from the Gabon Football Association.

McCulloch played as a striker and scored in the Scottish champions’ 4-1 win over Dunfermline on Saturday.

And he can’t wait to link up with Cousin, who left the club for Hull City back in 2008.

McCulloch said: "He's an all-rounder. When he was here the last time he had everything.

"I think the feeling in the dressing room was that he was the best all-round striker we had at that time.

"I just hope he hits the ground running. It's a fresh face and it will give everybody a lift. The quality is there and he's a nice guy to have around.

"Hopefully he can settle in straight away."

After winning praise for his display against the Pars, the former Scotland international admits he would play anywhere to ensure he’s in the starting line-up.

He added: "It's been a frustrating season for me so far. Every time I've got in the team, I've broken down with injury.

"It was a different position. It's somewhere I've played a few times.

"If I can get a game there, then I would like to play there and help the boys.

"There can't be any people moaning about getting left out of the team or being asked to play in a different position. You've just got to get on with it.

"The squad is quite thin so the boys in the dressing room need to stick together."

The result helped Rangers move on from last weekend’s Scottish Cup exit at the hands of Dundee United.

And McCulloch says every player is determined to keep league leaders Celtic in their sights.

He said: "It helps bring confidence, especially after last week.

"That result last week put us out of another cup and it could have been easy to go hiding. Losing the goal was another kick in the teeth.

"But we showed what fighters we've got and the togetherness we've got in the dressing room."
