Celtic are set to appeal the sending off of Daniel Majstorovic during the club’s 1-0 win over Inverness Caledonian Thistle on Saturday.
The central defender was shown a straight red card by referee Steven McLean for what the match official judged to be a professional foul on Inverness’ Johnny Hayes.
The Parkhead club have until 3pm on Tuesday to submit an appeal with evidence to support their claim but have already indicated their intention to fight the player’s suspension.
Celtic manager Neil Lennon said after the match that after reviewing footage of the incident, he felt that McLean had made the wrong call and that he intended launching an appeal.
"I am going to speak to the club about it and see if there is grounds for appeal," he said.
"I thought he got the ball. How the linesman could give it is beyond me and there were some very inconsistent decisions out there today.
"I think both sets of coaching staff were unhappy with the performance today. But I don't think the referee got much help from either of his linesmen.
"We were told that the linesman gave it, whether I am wrong on that I don't know.
"I have seen it on the television and it is pretty inconclusive but it looked to me that Daniel got the ball, you see the way the ball moves.
"It is very debatable decision that has gone against us.
Inverness captain Richie Foran agreed with Lennon’s take on the incident.
“Jonny Hayes has spoken about it and he (Majstorovic) got the ball,’ Foran said. “The defender got the ball. So that is another harsh decision.
“But it is a tough job for the referees out there. There is a lot of pressure on them, especially in big games.”
