'Celtic don't fear Easter Road anymore'

Hibernian boss Pat Fenlon says he is looking to make Easter Road a fortress and a place where even the Old Firm will not enjoy visiting.

The Leith side’s wretched form at Easter Road has seen them rack up just eight points, with only one home victory recorded all season, which came before Pat Fenlon succeeded Colin Calderwood in December.

The Hibees boss says that is something which he intends to improve on and make Easter Road a difficult venue to visit.

“Our home record is not good enough,” he said. “I know from looking at Scottish football over the years Celtic and Rangers looked at Easter Road as one where they knew they were going to get a tough game.

“It was going to be difficult and they knew they were going to have to be at it to get something but I think both of them over the last year or two probably feel it’s not the hardest place to come anymore.

“So that’s something we’ve got to change not just for them two but for everybody else.

“It’s our home ground and we’ve got to make it that way that people don’t like coming here.”

The former Bohemians manager is happy with the progress his side have made, especially in the defensive area with two clean sheets in their last couple of outings.

He said: “The shape of the team is a lot better, when you are not conceding goals it is a big help.

“It spreads confidence from the goalkeeper right through the team, but I think that has a lot to do with the work we have done as a team rather than defensively as a back four, we have done a lot of work on getting our shape quickly when we have lost the ball.

“When you ask players to put in that extra shift and work harder it is important that they get rewards for that so that helps when they see that the work that they have done is being rewarded with some points.”

The Irishman is all too aware of the task facing his side with leaders Celtic being the visitors this Sunday, but he is not expecting Neil Lennon’s men to be complacent due to their huge lead at the top of the league.

Fenlon said: “Celtic will be out to win the league by as many points as they possibly can so it cuts out anybody accusing them of not winning it properly, they are the type of club where you have to win football matches so it won’t make a difference.”
