St Mirren manager Danny Lennon admitted his side were lucky to gain a point after Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Dundee United.
The hosts had the better of a game United boss Peter Houston described as ‘brutal’.
And Lennon says his team must start scoring more goals if they are to secure a place in the SPL’s top six.
He said: "We have known all year what is letting us down and that is a lack of goals.
"These are games that we were losing but we are now undefeated in 11 out of 14.
"These were games we were losing last season and every single point that we earn in this SPL is a precious one, more so on the road.
"Given the manner in which we played, I'm delighted to come away with a very valuable point. I think it was very important to come up here and not lose.
"In the battle for the one place that's left for the top six I certainly believe Dundee United will be the bookies' favourites. It was important that out of the four teams pushing for that place we didn't come here and get beaten."
Lennon, whose team are yet to win an SPL match in 2012, added: "I think we have come here and stolen a point given the manner in which we played.
"I certainly didn't feel we brought enough to the game to win it. Whether it was a bit of a hangover from the long trek in midweek I don't know, we'll give the lads the benefit of the doubt.
"In terms of all the points we have got this season we have had to go out and earn them but today I've felt we were given one."
