Charlie Mulgrew has said that he is delighted to be called up to the Scotland national team and can play at left back or centrally for Craig Levein.
Mulgrew was named in the squad for the first time when Levein selected him for the friendly against Slovenia later this month.
Though touted for a call-up for some time, and having missed out last time through injury, the defender said he had not been worried about his international prospects.
“I’m delighted,” he said. “I’ve always said it’s an honour to be called up by your country. I’m very pleased.
“I said I just need to concentrate on what I’m doing for Celtic and hopefully it would come, and it has.”
The 25-year old has been playing centrally for Celtic as they have embarked on a lengthy winning run in the Scottish premier league.
However, as a versatile player who has made numerous appearances at left-back, Mulgrew could be handed the opportunity to stake a claim for a full-back position ahead of the World Cup qualifying campaign.
“That’s up to Craig Levein,” the Celtic defender said. “I don’t know what he has in mind.
“I’ve just heard five minutes ago that I’m in the squad so I’ll just play it by ear. Whatever he’s got in mind, I’ll be happy to do a job.
“I would be happy to play anywhere, wherever the manager sees me. I’m just happy to be in the squad and I’ll enjoy every minute of it.”
