St Mirren manager Danny Lennon has insisted that the club will not rush Darren McGregor back from injury.
McGregor has not played for the Paisley side since damaging the cruciate ligament in his left knee last August.
The defender was told that he was likely to miss the vast majority of the season and, though McGregor is now back in training, Lennon says that any game time in the SPL would be a bonus.
“Darren’s doing okay,” Lennon told the Paisley Daily Express.
“It was a very bad injury he received and we are now at a stage where we don’t want to push him too hard.
“Our physio, Gerry Docherty, is quite content with where we are in terms of Darren’s recovery. He does get niggles now and again but he’s doing okay at this minute in time.
“If Darren does come back before the end of the season, then it will be a welcome bonus for us.”
McGregor’s current contract expires at the end of the season and his manager is keen to secure the future of a player who proved to be an influential player following his move from Cowdenbeath in the summer of 2010.
“The big thing for us is to gear Darren up for next season,” Lennon said.
