Five-star Morton ease through

Morton made it through to the second round of the Scottish Communities League Cup with a comfortable 5-1 victory at East Stirling.

Allan Moore's men overpowered the side that finished bottom of the Third Division last season, with Mark McLaughlin putting them in front after only 20 seconds.

Morton forced an early corner from which McLaughlin blasted home the rebound after on-loan goalkeeper Ryan McWilliams had saved his initial header.

Peter Weatherson made it 2-0 after just 11 minutes, heading home from close range following Stephen Stirling's free-kick.

David Greenhill threatened for East Stirling before they pulled a goal back through Michael Herd's 12-yard finish just after the half-hour mark.

However, Stirling quickly restored the two-goal cushion with a volley from Tony Wallace's cross to send Morton into the break in control.

Ricky Miller went close for the hosts with a well-struck effort from the edge of the box shortly after the hour mark but Wallace made it 4-1 in the 67th minute with a tap-in.

Michael Tidser completed the scoring with four minutes remaining with a superb 25-yard free-kick.
