With anticipation mounting ahead of Sunday's Co-operative Insurance Cup final between Rangers and Celtic, stv.tv relives all the blood, sweat and tears from this classic Old Firm tussle.

In this explosive encounter from November 19 1995, the bitter rivals shared the spoils in a six-goal thriller which included two disallowed goals, a goalline bust-up between John Hughes and Andy Goram and referee Hugh Dallas brandishing nine yellow cards.

Rangers lined up with various legendary stars such as the majestic Paul Gascoigne, Danish flair player Brian Laudrup and current assistant coach Ally McCoist. But Celtic had some notable stars of their own, including captain Paul McStay, the silky John Collins and big Dutch striker Pierre van Hoojidonk.

Celtic opened the scoring when Andreas Thom’s belter from 30 yards swept past goalkeeper Andy Goram after nine minutes.

The Ibrox club struggled to do much up front but a tactical shake-up on the half-hour mark seemed to make the difference, with Gascoigne supplying the pass for Laudrup to slot home with six minutes to go in the half.

The Hoops regained the lead shortly after the restart when Richard Gough pulled down Hughes in the box with Dallas pointing to the penalty spot. Collins stepped up to do the honours.

But the introduction of Rangers’ highest ever goal-scorer had an immediate impact when McCoist met Gazza’s free-kick to head home the equaliser.

That goal seemed to turn the tide in Rangers' favour when just seven minutes later Walter Smith's men took the lead for the first time after Tosh McKinlay put the ball into his own net following Oleg Salenko's cutback.

Remarkably just two minutes later a little bit of Dutch courage brought the sides level again when van Hooijdonk rose to fire a powerful header past Goram.

In the end a draw was probably a fair result after much drama, with neither side deserving to lose after gutsy displays.
