New Dundee Football Club director Calum Melville has announced ambitious plans for a revolution which will guide the club back to the top of Scottish football.
Promotion to the SPL will be followed by a regular spot in the top six, with an influx of quality players and a reinvigorated fan-base, according to the Aberdeen based oil tycoon.
Melville told STV: “I think Dundee have the potential to be a top six SPL club, although we have to be realistic. We're never going to compete with Rangers and Celtic. But we can be a sustainable football club playing SPL football every season. That's a perfectly reasonable aspiration.
“We're at a cross roads and we have to stop feeling sorry for ourselves and say, 'we're a club with very little dept and we've got an opportunity to move forward.
Melville, the managing director of marine and offshore company Cosalt who is worth a reputed to be worth between £75-100million, has promised an increase of 25% to manager Jocky Scott’s player budget for next year and says that coaxing fans back to Dens Park is one of his top priorities.
“I am concerned that the fan base is being eroded by by playing first division football, and I think the potential is significant if we can get back in to the SPL.”
