Rangers midfielder Barry Ferguson could soon be a West Bromwich Albion player after the English club reportedly made a £1million bid for the 31-year-old.

The Birmingham Mail reported that Ferguson visited the Hawthorns on Sunday for talks and a tour of the club’s facilities ahead of the Baggies doomed match against Liverpool.

The 2-0 loss was the final nail in the coffin for Tony Mowbray’s men, who will be plying their trade in the Coca Cola Championship next season.

The BBC reported that Ferguson has given his personal approval to the move which would see him leave Rangers for the second time in his career.

It is believed that Rangers, who were looking for a £3million fee in January, would be willing to take the reduced bid while Ferguson himself would see his £30,000 per-week wage reduced.

The Glasgow club admitted in January they were keen to shed some players in a bid to reduce their crippling wage bill, and the then captain was linked with interest from St Petersberg, Newcastle and Birmingham.

Ferguson has since fallen from grace, being stripped of his club captaincy and banned from the national team after a series of public gaffes while on international duty for the World Cup qualifiers.
