Kenny Shiels hopes there will be a resolution to ongoing contract talks with Kilmarnock by the start of next week.

The manager is out of contract at the end of the season and an agreement is yet to be reached to keep him at Rugby Park, despite delivering the club their first silverware in 15 years with success in this season’s Scottish Communities League Cup.

Shiels has previously stated his desire to be given a long-term deal to shape the future of the club but says he is hopeful of movement in discussions in the coming weeks.

“Nothing has happened yet,” Shiels told STV. “We hope to meet and hold talks by the start of next week. My intention is to stay at Kilmarnock.

“There are nuts and bolts in every contract. It’s not just about what Kilmarnock can offer me. It’s also about what I can offer them.”

With his stock high but his future in Scotland uncertain, Shiels has been linked with a move to take over at League One side Bournemouth.

The manager denies he has been in contact with the south coast club but says he has received interest from elsewhere.

“There have been clubs in touch,” he confirmed. “But clubs get in touch with clubs about managers all the time.”
