Celtic gave their all but were undone at the death by Barcelona, with Jordi Alba scoring with seconds remaining at Camp Nou.
Georgios Samaras' opener for the Scots, which was helped on its way by Javier Mascherano, gave them a shock lead against their more illustrious opponents.
Andres Iniesta found a way through for Barca shortly before half-time and the pressure continued in the second half, with Celtic having fleeting chances to swing the game back in their favour.
Neil Lennon's side looked though to have done enough to secure a draw, surviving glorious opportunities spurned by Lionel Messi and David Villa.
But Alba was in the right place at the right time, with the final whistle approaching, to get a touch on Adriano's cross from the right to secure all three points.
