Gary Naysmith is eager to win a deal with Aberdeen and seal a return to Scotland’s top flight.
The Scotland international is available on a free after leaving Huddersfield Town, and featured in the Dons’ 12-0 friendly win over German side VfB Alstatte at the weekend.
Naysmith last played in his home country with Hearts in 2000 and says he is keen to return north of the border.
“There are a few offers there for me but Aberdeen is the one I am most interested in,” he told the Daily Record.
“Craig has given me the chance to come away, get to know the lads, get to see what the club is about, and let them see me so I have nothing to lose.
“I’ve been away from Scottish football for 12 years so if I come back it will be like a fresh challenge again but I am under no illusions.”
Manager Craig Brown is keen to offer his former international player a deal at Pittodrie but says he has to weigh up the possibility of being unable to bring in anyone else.
“We could still do with another one but if we take Gary, it could exhaust the player budget,” said the Dons boss. “So it will be an important decision.”
