Aberdeen are in discussion with Nigerian club Dender FC over the loan signing of striker Daniel Uchechi.
Uchechi, who has represented his country at Under-20 and Under-23 level, was on trial at Aberdeen last summer but no deal was agreed.
Manager Craig Brown has now stepped up his interest and STV understands there is a willingness from both sides to do a deal, though financial aspects have not yet been agreed.
The 22-year-old started his career at Charlton Athletic, but turned down a move to Wigan to sign for West Ham in 2009. After leaving London he moved back to Nigerian football with FC Dender before a loan spell with Leicester City last term.
Uchechi was the first player to win Soccer Am's skill school, and won man-of-the-match as Nigeria won the Intercontinental Cup in a final against Australia in 2008. He also played three times during Nigeria's Olympic games campaign.
